Our school Kindergarten Buddy Program hasn’t stopped just because it’s Remote Learning. Our Year 6 students have each created a video message to share with their Kindergarten Buddy. Even though they can’t be together at school to support their Kindy buddies they wanted to let them know that they are still here for them. We are so proud of our Year 6 students and the way they are demonstrating community leadership.
What is the Kindergarten Buddy Program?
Each Kindergarten student starting at St Mary’s is paired with a senior student in the school as their buddy. The program is in place to support the smooth transition of our Kindergarten students when they start school. The senior leaders will act as mentors and provide social and emotional support for the children. As the school year commences the Kindergarten students meet their buddies and get to know them. Senior students will often be invited into the Kindy classrooms to work closely with their Kindy buddy, completing a range of activities together including arts and crafts, structured play as well as reading and writing activities.
