Providing a range of co-curricular opportunities is important to us because we value each child’s individual skills and interests, and we want to give every opportunity for students to grow and further their potential.

Many of our students at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Concord love the opportunity to be involved in co-curricular activities as it develops a strong sense of community and encourages them to follow their passions to create a difference.

Chess

Sydney Academy of Chess provides weekly chess sessions on Mondays at lunchtime in our school library. Students study in an interactive lesson where they can play games against each other, practise newly learnt tactics, and receive personalised feedback from the instructors.

Gardening

Our school garden is a calm and vibrant space with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, and herbs growing. Our native Australian stingless bees help the garden to thrive in a sustainable way. Classes often visit the garden for interesting science lessons and to inspire them artistically.

Music

Music classes are given weekly for students in Kindergarten through Year 6. Students investigate numerous music skills such as rhythm, melody, and beat, as well as music styles. Students perform songs and rhymes by singing, playing, and moving to them. Music is also used to enable students to write and improvise. At St Mary’s we have introduced the Amadeus Music Program. Each student in Years 3-6 has the opportunity to learn and play an orchestral instrument in small group tutorialsas well as a grade ensemble or band. Music lessons often culminate in an end of year Christmas concert or carols, where the community is invited to join in and celebrate the wonderful learning that has taken place throughout the year.
